Overview
CF3M is an austenitic stainless steel casting alloy specified under ASTM A743/A743M, designed for applications requiring excellent corrosion resistance and weldability. It is the low-carbon, molybdenum-bearing counterpart to CF8M, and is compositionally equivalent to wrought 316L stainless steel. The addition of molybdenum enhances resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride-induced attack, while the reduced carbon content minimizes the risk of intergranular corrosion, especially in welded structures. CF3M is commonly used in chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, marine environments, and other corrosive service conditions where cleanliness and long-term durability are essential.
